Dead

We fought, we lost, we're giving up. Brgnstil is over, but perhaps we'll see you again some time. Until then, goodbye.

The nicest combo

You went so fast, I didn't even get your name. Care to send it via the Brgnstil?

Sunday, December 2, 2007

Overlook

Runa (16) likes to wear tight jeans, large t-shirts with a cardigan and always a scarf! - I buy most of my clothes at H&M and Pepper, but as long as i like the outfit, i'll wear it, regardless of brand or shop.

Wanna be a street style photographer?

Future plans

We met these guys at the new Dropz store in Skostredet, Claudio (28) and Giovanni (35).
Claudio had loads of good Dropz-news to spill: "Well, this is pretty much our playground where we [the guys of Dropz - not all of them pictured here] only do things that we like. We are very different from each other and have quite different personal styles - it equals good business. And it's getting better and better. We're going to sell special edition pieces by Black Milk and Mocca which are made exclusively for Dropz. We are also going to start our own brand which will focus on quality. Maybe we'll even open a lounge."
Keep your eyes open for Dropz in the near future.

The ultimate matcher

We ran into Cecilie (21) at a record shop and immediately fell in love with her perfectly matched outfit. "I'm quite fond of colour and the 50's and 60's. I also sew a bit. I almost always wear skirts and dresses, so I own very few pants."

Heading for Paris

These guys, Mario (19) and Martin (21), are quite a cheerful bunch. "I'm in the marketing business as well as being a DJ - while Mario over here [makes pointing sign] is a skater/manager for Kakkmaddafakka, Snill Pose and Matias Tellez/writer for Natt&Dag. There's a whole lot of slashes," tells Martin. "And I'll soon be on my way to Paris," adds Mario.

Bergen = rain

Pernille (23) looked quite fresh and happy in the pouring rain. "I'm wearing a raincoat and waterproof boots because it's really practical. I dug up this scarf in my mother's closet."

We adore Inga's (19) cute style. "Today I'm wearing tights, which are my fashion staple, and a new shirt from H&M. I often choose my clothes randomly, and never plan an exact outfit."

Cool cat

We saw Sverre (32) the other day from across the street and working our way over to him was quite hard, but we don't regret a bit risking to get hit by a car! Check out his tiny iPod (attached to his bag) - the matching between the iPod and the belt is really cool.

Black Milk Basso

Anette (22) caught our eye with her great colour-combination. She is currently writing for Natt & Dag, a free paper/magazine which works as a source of inspiration to many people in Bergen. "I got this t-shirt yesterday from my friend, Torgeir. Not only is it cool, but also it's great promo for his online-shop, Dropz.no."

This charming lady was on her way to a wine and cheese party, but took time to share a fashion tip: "I think people should wear more colours. Black clothing doesn't make us happy!"

Lars (24) has not only a great sence of style, but also a cool ride (check out the details on the wheel). "I would categorize my way of dressing as old school tennis style."

The beauty of bargain

This girl, Elisabeth (26) loves her vintage. "Well, I actually bought this jacket for only 20 cent in Spain - it was a great bargain." When asked which second hand store she likes best in Bergen, Elisabeth said: "Klesskapet, definently. Mostly because they hand-pick and customize their items."

Kakkmaddafakka

These brothers, Pål and Axel, are part of a popular local band which goes by the lovely name of Kakkmaddafakka. Their shows are full of energy and humour, and this summer you can find them at festivals such as Storåsfestivalen, Malakoff and Lost Weekend. "A lot of our clothes are from a store here in Bergen called Steez, but not my [Pål] sunglasses. They're from Dolce & Gabbana."

Vacation-season

You may have noticed we don't publish pictures as frequent as we used to do before. That is because vacation-season has just started, and we're both in desperate need of some rest. So from now on, we will try to update every second day, but we can't guarantee anything. We hope that you'll still stick around for new people and new styles this summer.

- Alisa and Karoline, Brgnstil

Ayia Napa vs Roskilde

This guy's sweater was more a minty shade, so one can say that the picture doesn't really credit that. His name is André (20), and apparently we have taken pictures of some of his friends - it's kind of cool that a lot of the style scene people hang out together. André was carrying around a pile of travel catalogues, so we asked him a bit about them: "Oh, some friends of mine and I were kidding around and decided that we should go to a place where it's hot and touristy. But that just dumb, we're really going to Roskilde."

Dropz

While browsing through a stack of clothes at a sample sale, we ran into Torgeir (25) as he was flying around on his skateboard. Not only is he responsible for the Fashion Fuel sample sale, but also for a new online store called Dropz. "Today I am really happy and excited, because yesterday we got the distribution for a brand called Trainerspotter, and it's awesome." Check out the sample sale if you are in Bergen (from Wednesday to Saturday, from 12 AM to 6-7 PM)! Also - notice the cool watch on his wrist!

Kauf dich glücklich

This lady's attitude was obvious from across the street, we just couldn't pass by without taking a picture. Her name is Kjerstin (26) and she was waiting for her shift to begin at the much talked about café, Pingvinen. "I think clothes are important, to a certain point. But I do not care about fashion, it's vain." The text on her bag say 'Kauf Dich Glücklich" - anyone care to translate?

Earrings are a girls best friends

Summer has come to Bergen, and the city is all sweaty and sunny. We met Mari (18) at the local good-will shop, and she turned out to be a Brgnstil-reader! "In Bergen I shop at H&M and Pepper, while American Apparel is my favourite when I'm abroad. Recently, I have started to buy more things online. That way, the clothes I wear are harder to spot on other people in Bergen." Check out those sweet earrings too!

Friday, June 8, 2007

Sneakers are best when paired

Hans Fredrik (22) and Marie (20) were stylish yet few of words. They study law and psychology (from left to right). Hans Fredrik told us that internet inspired him, then an outburst came from Marie: "By the way, I bought these Keep shoes on the internet!" Notice their cool sneakers and the combo with khaki and purple - khaki and purple is big in Bergen.

T Michael

This is T Michael (40), one of Bergen's leading designers and probably one of the classiest men one will ever meet. T Michael makes clothes for men, clothes that are more than fashion. Clothes with a certain point of reference. "I'm preoccupied by the clothes being of a certain quality. My designs are tailored and made out of interesting fabrics," states T Michael. As his business card puts it, this is "clothing for the man with a defined sense of style". Check out more of his designs at t-michael.com or at his store/atelier located in Skostredet 9a, Bergen.

Pepper pepper pepper

By now, we understand that we have developed a tendency of stopping people who work at Pepper. But you know, what can we do. They're really too good-looking and stylish to not stop. Pictured here, is Vegard (35), owner of Pepper. We asked him if he had anything wise to say about fashion, and [surprise] obviously, he had much to tell: "To me, music and clothes are connected, so music is a major influence of mine. The internet has also made it a lot more simple to stay updated on the new brands and trends, because trends change so fast now and I need to know what's going on, being that I work with clothes. And magazines are also a great influence, although I don't think there are any good magazines around for men. I personally enjoy Cover (DK), i-D and Dazed and Confused."

Drama #2

We met Siri (20) by accident while we were talking to Millan from the previous post. It turned out that they became friends while studying the same major. "I watch loads of movies all the time, both old and new ones. My relationship to clothing is pretty much the same, I love both old and new clothes," Siri explained.

Monday, May 28, 2007

Drama

We ran into this charming girl who goes by the unusual name of Millan (24). She spends her rainy days in Bergen studying drama science. When we asked Millan where she liked to shop, she did not hesitate in saying: "Noa Noa is like a second home to me, but I also shop quite a lot at H&M."

Grow a mustache

Henning (24) is a busy busy guy who not only works at our favourite store, Pepper, he also works as a freelance journalist and music producer. He listed 2k, Henrik Vibskov and the straight Swedish Filippa K as his favourite brands (all available at Pepper). When asked if he had a fashion tip for our readers/viewers, Henning fascinated us as he said: "It may sound cliché, but don't be afraid to express yourself through what you're wearing. If people express themselves through music and interests, why can't they do it through style?"

Balloon of Bergen

This lovely young girl, Anne (19), caught our attention from hundreds of meters away. Her colourful outfit stood out from the greyscale dressed crowd (one would really think that people dressed more or less in vibrant happy colours on 17th of May, but obviously, that's not the fact). "Today I have enjoyed a nice breakfast which consisted mainly of sour cream porridge [traditional Norwegian dish]. Now I'm on the way to the fun fair where I'm going to ride crash cars!"

Saturday, May 19, 2007

Ja, vi elsker

17th of May is Norway's national day, for those who didn't know. And for the occasion, Inger Lena (37) and Bjarte (32) took part in the city's parade. They are members of the veteran bicycle club, Cyclus (which by the way celebrated it's 100 year anniversary this year).

Animated art

This was the second time that day we ran to get a picture of a great guy like this, Gaute (25). He was actually walking around thinking about his exhibition, which was supposed to be exhibited later that very day. It was his graduation exhibition (this was his last day as an art student). "I recently made a total promo-package for the electronica performer Njaal, who is quite known in Bergen's club scene. I made an animated music video, a cover and a poster. It was pretty fun."

Tuesday, May 15, 2007

Comfort

While walking through our favourite street, we saw a tiny glimpse of colour from across the road, so we ran for it. And we caught Christian (21). When asked if he was a aware of style and such, he answered: "Well, it is a part of my life, but I'm not obsessed by it. I'm just preoccupied with being comfortable."

Saturday, May 12, 2007

It takes two

We didn't plan to take pictures this day, but when we stumbled across these two fashion-forward funny girls, Carima (23) and Hege (23), we just had to ask. "I'll only let you take my picture if you borrow me your shades," demanded Carima. A little surprised by the request I [Alisa] mumbled a "sure". "And also, make sure you write that my jacket is from a store in Iceland called Naked Ape."

Friday, May 11, 2007

Again and again

After sighting the colourful girl to the left, we went up to her and asked if we could take her picture. To our surprise, we found it was Victoria(19), who has previously made an appearance at Brgnstil together with her sister Inga (21). And just seconds later, Inga stepped out of the next door shop. They really bright up the streets of Bergen! "We're actually not only friends, but also sisters. You didn't get that last time," Victoria laughed. Now that you say it, we do see the resemblance!

Wednesday, May 9, 2007

Shy

Another couple we stumbled upon while thinking about crossing the road, is Ingrid (20) and Robert (21). Robert has the unusual occupation of a machine-operator at the cinema. When asked about their style, Ingrid didn't have much to say: "The one over there [points to Robert] tries not to care about it, while I admit that I do care a bit."

Sunday, May 6, 2007

Salt'n'Pepper

While stopping by one of Bergen's finest stores, Pepper, we were impressed by this stylish employee. Her name is Elisabeth (20) and besides working at Pepper, she is also on the board of the county's youth filmclub, HUFF (Hordaland Ung Filmforening). "I love many of the brands we have here at Pepper, especially Acne and Filippa K. Besides Pepper, I get my clothes from Fretex and my mom's closet."

Friday, May 4, 2007

Three's company

This charming trio which consists of Siri (21), Kristoffer (25) and Ellen Marie (24), caught our attention while standing by a zebra crossing. Siri studies to become a teacher, while Kristoffer is already occupied as one. Ellen Marie is an art student in Bergen (not unlike several of the other people pictured on this site). "Kristoffer just bought a bread knife at a flee market. He is very proud of it," laughed the girls, talking about Kristoffer showing of his knife [in a box] for the picture.

Thursday, May 3, 2007

Sunshine

Julie (21) and Almendra (20) were headed to a local bar for a cold beer in the sunshine with their friends. When asked to describe their style, both chose two words: retro/hippie-chic. "I like to shop around second hand stores, and I especially do a lot of shopping when I'm in Copenhagen," said Almendra and added "And I shop a lot at H&M, of course."

Det lille kaffekompaniet

This lovely barefooted young lady, Synne (21), works at "Det lille kaffekompaniet", a famous coffeshop in bergen. Be sure to visit it if you're in town, they are simply the best!

Tuesday, May 1, 2007

Simon says yo

This is an acquaintance of ours, Simon (16). He's funky as hell. He's in a band called Freddy Bang, who plays a mix of indie/rock/funk [The number of musicians you find at Brgnstil is astonishing]. There just isn't much more to say.

Sunday, April 29, 2007

With the band

We met Dani (18) while he was hanging out with the Fitts For Fight-girls, and immediately noticed his fab do-it-yourself tote bag with a dinosaur print on it. The print was apparently made with a stencil and spray paint. We want one of those.

Yeah

From now on, we'll try to "publish" a new picture each day - so do stop by to check out the updates.

Fuck off and die

Aurora (21) and Chiku (21), or by Bergen measures 25. Together, they are Fitts for Fight, who played their first show in Bergen 04/26. Later that day, they were headed to a rave called the Fix, those lucky bastards.

Wednesday, April 25, 2007

Tuxedo

This Saturday was a very special day in town. Every street was occupied by a hundred-man-marching-band. And they were all dressed in tuxedos. It was quite a sight. Well, later that day we ran into Jo (54), who works at the publishing company Bodoni. "I'm on my way to a party. We're celebrating the 150 year anniversary of Nygaard's Battalion at a pub."

Note:
The expression "marching band" was the best English one I could find for what we call "buekorps" in Norwegian. It's quite a Bergenesque phenomenon. They are...not bands. They march, but only use drums, and not trumpets and such.

Monday, April 23, 2007

Cherry baby

You have no idea, we really had to chase this girl around the corner to get a picture of her. Our attention was immediately brought to her scarf and bag, which were both glowing with all that good ol' retro-feeling. Linn (20) studies art and often shops at the local goodwill-store, Fretex. "I mostly like to shop when I'm in foreign countries."

Sunday, April 22, 2007

Bright on a dark day

After running around the city for two entire hours, looking for people to take pictures of, we were ecstatic when we ran into Victoria (19) and Inga (21) from Lithuania. They are both currently based in Norway. Victoria works as an au-pair, while her friend Inga works at a designstudio. Do notice the lovely details of their apparel.

Friday, April 20, 2007

Riding through the city on a bike all day

When we walked by a convenience store, Øyvind immediately caught our attention. Apparently, he "stole" his bike from his grandma's barn. "The bike, in spite of it's coolness, is not that practical - with it's two gears and all."

Wednesday, April 18, 2007

Working nine to five

We caught Hanne (20) on her way home from work. She works at a shoestore (check out her cool sneakers) and she also studies art. "I play in a band called List [we thought it was particularly hard to spell] - it's a two-man show."

Monday, April 16, 2007

A walk in the park

The conveniently named Marie (15), Marie (16) and Maria (16). The girls are all part of the indie/rock/punk-band Razika (check out their Myspace!). "We're inspired by everything rave, indie. And we like to mix secondhand and new stuff."

Pretty In Purple

Kine (19)
is a student at Folkehøgskolen in Bergen. "I like to match my clotches, and I'm more preoccupied by the whole outfit, rather than just focusing on one piece of clothing." As you can see, Kine likes colours.
